Thanksgiving may look a little different this year! Even if you’re getting together with fewer folks than usual, this holiday still deserves a special meal. Whether you’re cooking the “traditional” meal or feel like mixing things up, Sasquatch Books has you covered with delicious Thanksgiving menus from our bestselling cookbooks and authors. We will share a menu each week leading up to the holiday, beginning with one from our upcoming cookbook I Heart Soul Food: 100 Southern Comfort Favorites by Rosie Mayes.

Rosie Mayes is the beloved creator of the popular food blog I Heart Recipes. On her blog and on social media, Rosie shares all the secrets to cooking classic southern dishes (the way mom used to!) and invites her fans into her kitchen to enjoy food, fun, and southern hospitality.

I Heart Soul Food Thanksgiving Menu

Appetizer of Crab Deviled Eggs with Bacon

Rosie hates bland eggs and created this recipe for her holiday parties. It includes the briny flavor of crab, the smoky and meaty flavor of bacon, and the savory seasoning of Old Bay Seafood Spice.

Side Dish of Cheesy Whipped Potatoes

Rosie loves cheese and when she was young she would only eat potatoes if they were her mom’s Cheesy Whipped Potatoes! She fell in love with these potatoes then and is still in love with them now. It’s important that these potatoes not be mashed! To whip them properly, cook the heck out of the potatoes so that they are fork-tender and then whip with a whisk or hand mixer.

Side Dish of Soul Food Collard Greens

A southern staple, Rosie never has a holiday meal without Collard Greens! Instead of ham hocks, Rosie makes hers with bacon ends because, everyone knows, bacon drippings make everything better. Serve with cornbread or a fluffy yeast roll to sop up the smoky, savory liquid left behind from cooking the greens.

Main Dish of Baked Turkey Wings

Instead of cooking a whole turkey, try Rosie’s Baked Turkey Wings. This is a low maintenance turkey recipe that serves up big flavor!

Dessert of Sweet Potato Pie

Sweet Potato Pie is the soul food dessert. Your soul food holiday won’t be complete without it!
